Why Volunteer?

  • Can you remember a time when you needed help?
  • Can you remember the peace of mind you experienced knowing that someone was there for you?

Thriving in Place is organized around the vision of "neighbors helping neighbors." Volunteers make a difference in the lives of others, but were you aware of the many benefits that those who volunteer experience?

Research shows that those who volunteer experience improved physical and mental health. It provides a sense of purpose and increases social interaction.

Here's What the Research Says:

  • "A study of adults age 65 and older found that the positive effect of volunteering on physical and mental health is due to the personal sense of accomplishment that an individual gains from his or her volunteer activities." (Herzog et al., 1998)
  • "A study of older adults found that participation in community service was more strongly correlated with life satisfaction for retirees than for those individuals who continued to work for pay." (Harlow and Cantor, 1996)
  • Data analysis from the American's Changing Lives study has shown that "volunteering leads to lower levels of depression for individuals 65 or older."

TIP depends on its volunteers. They make a difference. You can make a difference too by volunteering!
Who Can Volunteer?
Any TIP Villager is eligible to volunteer.

How Does It Work?
  • Volunteers can choose what services they wish to provide and when they wish to provide them. Your schedule is entirely up to you,
  • When a service request is emailed to you, you can choose whether you wish to provide that service or not.
  • There is no expectation as to how much time you have to devote or that you volunteer at a particular time of day or have a fixed schedule.
What Can You Do?
Check our Volunteer Opportunities page to discover the different ways you can contribute. You can volunteer to provide in-person services for our Villagers or you can help with organizational support.

Ready to Volunteer? Here's How to Get Started

Thank You Volunteers!!!

Thanks to all TIP Volunteers who have helped our CP neighbors in need. Through your dedication and caring ways, TIP continues to provide services such as transportation, handy helpers, technology assistance, and friendly check-ins. The TIP volunteers that appear in this appreciation video tribute represent just a sample of those that volunteer for TIP.

As we continue to grow, we are discovering that our need for volunteers is increasing. If you can provide assistance, please consider volunteering. Help TIP continue to fulfill its vision of "neighbors helping neighbors".
